20 Kid-Friendly Smoothie Recipes

ShareTweetGooglePinterestMail

I love making smoothies for breakfast! They are quick, easy, and I can add all kinds of fruit and vegetables. I like to add a form a protein as well, to help me stay full longer.  I seem to always fall back on my strawberry, banana, spinach smoothie, so I’m always looking for new smoothie recipes.

Breakfast smoothies have become my number one favorite way to sneak vegetables into my kid’s diet. My kids are picky and typically won’t try vegetables at dinner time. I’ve found that they are more willing to try “scary” foods earlier in the day, and they will try anything in a smoothie. Occasionally, I show my son smoothie recipe pictures on Pinterest to let him choose the next one we will try.

Smoothie Making Tips

When you’re making a smoothie, there are a few tips you can follow to ensure you will have a great-tasting smoothie.

  • Use a high powered blender. I hate uneven chunks in my smoothies and a good blender will prevent that. A good blender will also chop of greens so that they are virtually invisible. Invisible vegetables are kid-friendly vegetables!
  • Use bananas to disguise greens. I often hide spinach or kale in smoothies and I don’t want them to taste bitter.  The taste of banana is so strong it hides even a giant handful of bitter kale. Frozen bananas are the BEST at making any smoothie recipe creamy.  Just don’t forget to peel it before you freeze it.
  • Give your smoothie a cool name. The first time I made a green smoothie for my son, I wasn’t sure he would drink it. So, I put it in a fancy cup and called it a “Hulk Smash Smoothie”. The cool name was all it took for him to try it!
  • Add cooked oatmeal. Oatmeal is filling and adds creaminess to your smoothie recipe. If you’re wanting your smoothie to be a meal replacement, add some oatmeal!
  • Add protein powder.  I always add protein powder to my smoothie recipes. I have a hard time getting my kids to eat protein (go figure!), so protein powder makes my smoothies kid-friendly!
